The Brief

Anna came to me to help her feel good about her appearance again. Her body shape has been changing recently and she wanted to learn what styles of clothing suit her best at this time in her life.

She chose to use all my in-person services...

Colour analysis
Style analysis
Wardrobe audit
2 x Personal shopping trips (one for special occasion wear; another for more everyday wear including jeans, skirt and shoes)
Professional photographs plus styling

For the first shopping trip the aim was to find something for several special events including a wedding and her 5th wedding anniversary. The second shopping trip was scheduled later, to find smart casual clothes for socialising.

The photographs were for a private record of her new look.

Over the years Anna had lost her way with the styles that suited her. This had resulted in her losing confidence in her clothing choices and coming to hate clothes shopping. This was reflected in her wardrobe. She had not been updating her wardrobe regularly and was reduced to casual clothes for work and 1 or 2 special occasion outfits, but nothing much inbetween.

As with many of my clients, Anna was also at a loss as to how to accessorize and had very few accessories.

Most of the colours she was wearing suited her, although she hadn't realised (or had forgotten) that clear colours suit her Winter colouring better than muted, dusty or greyed colours. And as a Deep Winter there are also some warmer colours in her colour range, even though most of her best colours are cool. A medium to high contrast between her tops and her face also work best for her colouring.

Anna's personal style is Natural, Classic and Feminine. Adding a touch of Feminine to her Natural and/or Classic styling really suits her curves and feminine facial features. However, Anna also has a petite stature and so needs to be careful that the styles she chooses don't overwhelm her shorter frame. In particular skirt and dress lengths around knee length are her most most flattering length (for many styles it's easy to alter the length to suit without spoiling the line of the dress or skirt). And her best bottoms will be darker or the same colour value as her tops (lighter bottoms will make her look shorter and wider).

Luckily she likes dresses and we found her some great ones, both in her current wardrobe and during the shopping trips. For jeans we found some curvy "Not Your Daughters Jeans" that fit her perfectly.

Another challenge for Anna is finding shoes that fit her feet, as an Australia size 4 to 4.5, she is smaller than the typical shoe size stocked here, and also a little wider than average. I was able to recommend some custom shoes from the online store Shoes Of Prey which caters for shoes sizes from 2.5 US/AU (UK Child 12.5/European 31) to 15 US/AU (13.5 UK/European 49) as well as wider and narrower fittings (and even for a person having both feet a different size!). For the photo shoot she was wearing the shoes she'd designed and they looked fabulous (see the black peep toe courts in the photo, top right)!

Q: What encouraged you to look for style makeover services?

A: I did not like the way I looked.

A: Searched Google for "Makeover Sydney"

Q: What were your major objectives at this stage?

A: Wardrobe and hairstyle revamp

A: Yes. Was going to see a friend I had not seen for a long time who always commented about my weight.

A: Your website was very informative and you have a nice smile.

What was your experience of working with me?

Q: Tell me how you felt going through the style makeover process?

A: The colour analysis was good. Although I already knew I am a "Winter", I did not realise there was another layer to it. The "styles for clothes" book [also called the eStyles program and available online to clients wordwide] was very educational. I never liked to go shopping for clothes because I never knew what to buy. Now I can go to a shop more confidently and know exactly what style and colour will suit me.

Q: What were your expectations? And were they met?

A: I expected that my wardrobe will be scrutinised and some clothes would have to go. I also expected to buy clothes that would be more flattering for my figure. Yes, my expectations were met.

Q: What are my strengths?

A: You know what you are talking about and you are very friendly. You are also flexible by coming to my place when I could not get to yours.

Q: What are my weaknesses?

A: None that I can think of.

Q: Would you use my services again?

A: Probably, although I think I know what to look for now when buying clothes and choosing a hairstyle. [Blast, I did my job too well ;D !]

Q: What advice would you give to others who are considering reviewing and improving their image?

A: I would recommend an image consultant.
