Jane's Jottings

Hello {!firstname}

This month I've had the pleasure and privilege of having an opera singer (a tenor) as a client. I'm hoping to add him to my Makeover Gallery soon.  Part of what he wanted to achieve was to identify and build his personal brand. So, part of my preparation for his session involved researching what's involved in personal branding.

This fits in well with identifying and developing personal style expression. I've been thinking a lot about this recently and how to make it more accessible for my clients and readers. You'll find more about these topics below.

Enjoy this month's Style Snippets. Until next month, all the best

Jane

Developing Style

One of the things I love to help my clients with is identifying and developing their personal style expression or style personality, as it's also called.

After learning the style basics of colors and how to dress to flatter for your body shape, you start mastering them by reviewing your current wardrobe.

The next step in your style journey is to work on your style personality. What clothing styles express you and reflect how you want the world to see you?

There's another, more holistic, term I've been hearing a lot recently in the image consulting industry: personal branding. In particular it's used in the context of career development and small business owners. However, it applies just as well to creating your leisure time image.

Your Questions Answered

Each month I pick 1-3 questions I've been asked that I think other readers will be interested in and publish them here. You can ask me questions or share your style story either directly on my website or through my contact me form.

Q: Tapered vs skinny pants? from Anne

What's the difference? And why does my Style ePortfolio say I should not wear skinny pants?

A: First I explain and show pictures of some of the most common pant-leg styles. Then I explain who looks best in skinny pants.

Q: V-neck with my heart shaped face? from Anthony of Fort Lauderdale, USA

Anthony wanted to know if this neckline style suits him. He also asked some questions about his coloring.

A:  I've been receiving quite a few enquiries from males recently. It's good to know that some males at least are interested in making the most of their appearance!
