Jane's Jottings

Here in Sydney after a balmy May it's now feeling decidedly wintery! All my winter woollies are in full rotation.

If you'd like to see some of the outfits I wear (and hopefully gain inspiration for your own outfits) follow me on Facebook or Instagram. I'm trying to remember to take photos and post more regularly! I'll also be posting other style tips and ideas there.

I'm also getting ready to open up registrations for my next Dressing Your Shape online course. If you'd like details reply to this email.

This month I've answered a reader's 'can I wear this' question. And if you've ever been confused about what's appropriate to wear to work have a look below.

Enjoy this month's Style Snippets. Yours in style

Your Questions Answered

I answer questions I've been asked that I think other readers will be interested in and publish them here.

You can ask me questions or share your style story either directly on my website or by replying to this email.

Q: Shorts for tall long-legged woman? from Anne of Denmark, Europe
Ann is almost 6ft tall, slim and has very long, thin legs. She wants to know if she can wear shorts.

A: Anne actually asked this question quite a few years ago and for some reason it's taken me until now to answer her (sorry Anne).

Anne, yes you can wear shorts! Read my answer to see the lengths, styles and styling ideas I give her.

Confident Style Online Program:
Dress to Flatter Your Shape

Do you ever feel frumpy and old? Are you confused about what styles work for you now your shape has changed? Is it hard for you to find age appropriate clothes you like?

How good would it be if when you opened your wardrobe you saw pieces that all mixed and matched that fitted you perfectly, flattered your proportions and allowed you to quickly, easily and enjoyably get dressed everyday?

Well the aim of this online style program is to teach you how to do exactly that! (And because the program is online, it doesn't matter where you are in the world!)

You'll have instant access to all the lessons, plus several opportunities to ask me questions in live online meetings. This is what one previous course participant said:
" This course has put the fun back into getting dressed each day. I had a wardrobe full of clothes yet never felt stylish. Jane taught me how to dress for my body shape and helped me to understand how following some simple guidelines could take outfits from being 'okay' to 'that really works!'.

"Each lesson built upon the previous information so that by the end of the course, when I had completed my capsule outfits, I found I had put together many exciting outfit options yet had been able to happily donate lots of items to an op shop.

"It seems unbelievable to have many more interesting and exciting outfits from fewer clothes! I see my wardrobe far more 'holistically' now and believe that in the future I will buy far more wisely when shopping - and probably save money! I now have the tools and knowledge to think how a new item of clothing, shoe or accessory will fit into my wardrobe." - Philippa
If you're over 40 and would like to register your interest reply to this email today and let me know you'd like to know more. When the course opens I'll be accepting participants on a first come, first in basis. Register your interest to ensure you're first to get the details.

Understanding the Business Dress Code

As a working woman, if you've ever felt inappropriately dressed, in a work situation, you'll know how uncomfortable that can be. Similarly if you've worked with a woman who's inappropriately dressed you'll understand how distracting that can be!

In our age of casual dressing it's so much easier to get the dress level wrong. That can mean you've dressed too formally for the occasion, or too casually. It's challenging for men (yes, really, if a suit is no longer their business 'uniform'), but even more so for women, with our greater range of choices and our more varied body types!

Getting what you wear too far wrong in either direction can alienate you and have the people you're working with question your professionalism and ability to do the job.

This article will help you navigate the dress code, so you can get it right every time.

(Although this article is not new, it's currently buried deep within my website, so I want to bring it to your attention, in case you missed it!)
