Jane's Jottings

I really don't know quite what happened to April! Yes, I was busy with lovely clients reviewing wardrobes, shopping, and creating new outfits for Autumn and Winter. And I took a few days off around my birthday at the beginning of the month. However, I'd had good intentions of creating a Style Snippets for you.

Anyway, I've missed April, so here's May's Style Snippets instead!

I've answered a reader's question (see below).

In Sydney our Autumn has mostly been warm and sunny often reaching around 25C. However, mornings and evenings can feel quite chilly and be 10C cooler. And we've also had the occasional cold snap, including an evening storm of hail and heavy rain here in Avalon Beach! Layers of clothing are the best approach for staying comfortable in this type of wide fluctuation of temperatures. Dress for the warmest scenario, then add outer layers, that can be removed as the day heats up.

I've been posting examples of my outfits here on my Instagram page, hopefully they'll give you some inspiration of different combinations to try (even if you're not my shape or colouring).

Do contact me if you'd like help with discovering your style, editing your wardrobe and shopping. I can help you in person if you're in Sydney, or online if you're elsewhere.

Enjoy this month's Style Snippets. Yours in style

Your Questions Answered

Q: What patterned jumpers (sweaters) are best for an inverted triangle body shape? from Amy, Canberra, Australia

A: Amy is looking forward to wearing jumpers (for my American readers these are pullover sweaters, rather than dresses!) now that winter is approaching. She loves Fair Isle and Icelandic patterned and textured jumpers. However, she knows that these aren't good for her body proportions.

I've given her suggestions for which patterns will work best for her. However, if you really like a particular style or colour even though it's not ideal for your appearance, it's worth experimenting with some trompe-l'oeil techniques to see if you can make it work for you.  Read my suggestions here.
